Dreams and Visions
It sounds like an album name or a book title, but in reality, it’s our life—my life, your life. We all have dreams and visions of what our lives may look like now and in the future.
We know the Word of God (the Bible) is full of dreams and visions, from Genesis through Revelation. Strangely enough, as we read it today, we often have a greater understanding of why a prophet received a vision or why a king had a dream. As the story unfolds, we see it was God’s plan for a kingdom, for a nation—depending on whom God was capturing the attention of.
So, who among you has had a dream or a vision? It seems I dream every night, and when I’m a bit exhausted and take a nap, I dream then as well. But do all my dreams have deep meaning? I believe some do and some don’t. I call the latter my “pizza dreams,” my “staying-up-too-late dreams,” my “I’ve-got-too-much-going-on-in-my-life dreams.” Then there are the ones that give you direction, a concept, or an idea.
These are the ones you don’t forget and ponder on.
Before we knew we were leaving Switzerland—a sad moment, to be sure—I had a dream about being on a train and not finding a seat in any of the carriages. In the end, I found myself standing on the track, watching the train speed away into the distance. My interpretation? We were on the wrong track, and, believe it or not, the next train we rode would take us to Geneva, where we would fly to Hawaii for a season.
Okay, I hear you say: seriously, you’d change your life’s direction over a dream? Not just any dream—and as long as it aligns with other confirmations.
Sandor and I won’t move a step forward in any direction unless we’ve discussed the situation, the move, the plan, or the idea—and we both have peace about it. Peace is our litmus test.
We both know the peace of God, and we both know its opposite. This is a guarantee for all married couples because the Lord has made you one.
Many people ask us the secret to our 35 years of marriage. Well, I’m giving you one of those secrets now:
To have peace, you have to know peace. To know peace, you have to know God.
“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:7
